History of Emanuel Lutheran Day Care
Emanuel Lutheran Day Care (ELDC) was established in January of 2000. Our day care program started with an "Infant Classroom" of eight infants from birth to 17 months old, two staff members, and a director. Our infant center was one of the few infant centers in the area. Within a short time, ELDC increased enrollment by licensing the adjoining classroom and called it the "Toddler Classroom", adding up to 12 toddlers age 12 months to 24 months, and employing an additional three staff members. By October of 2000, ELDC expanded by utilizing the existing facility next door to include a "Preschool Program" that allowed ELDC to provide care for up to 30 children ages 2-5 years old and employ four more staff members to our already flourishing day care center. With the preschool addition, ELDC has been able to see tiny little newborns turn into extraordinarily bright kindergarteners.
In 2019, ELDC sought an expansion to provide care for school age children. Then in 2020, We found ourselves with a class full of remote learners during the Covid-19 shelter in place. Our public school systems shut down in person learning. We provided space for our school age children. This program soon faded in 2021 when our public school system returned to in-person schooling and provided after school care for all. This helped us decide to expand our PreK/Fours area. We utilized our old school age room and transformed it into a second fours class. After 24 years of service in our community, we are now able to provide employment for 13 staff and child care for 80 children, 0-6yrs, in seven classrooms.
